carry-on kitchen  is the idea that no matter where you are, you carry your kitchen alongside with you… traveling or not, cooking (and more importantly, eating) will be a meaningful part of your daily life.

Where did the name come from?

When I travel, I pack light – and it always seems to work fine for me. I don’t miss much… my shoes, knick knacks, or CD collection are easily forgotten. However, I did start to find that I was longing for my kitchen, and the tools that come with it. Trying to cook in someone else’s kitchen can be tricky, right? So, I started traveling with my favourite set of measuring spoons, or that one potato peeler that works better than any other. I was carrying a kitchen in my carry-on. That’s what this website is all about… travel, cooking, and a focus on eating wherever you are.

Let this website be your carry-on… a collection of stories, reviews, and tips that you can take with you wherever you go.

My name is Erika Simon, and I’m a freelancer from Toronto, Canada. I work as a writer, graphic designer, and communications specialist for several Canadian businesses.

After graduating from the University of Toronto with a B.A. with Honours in English literature, I decided to combine my writing skills with my work experience in graphic design to offer my clients a variety of services like writing, website solutions, managing social media, and everything in between.
